My Babies First Words
I can remember it like it was yesterday. I was lying in bed with my 7 month old baby, and my husband was in the closet getting dressed. It was in the early morning hours and we were just getting up for the day. And then it happened… My baby said DaDa! I wasn’t totally sure what I had heard, until my husband came leaping out from the closet, shouting “did you hear what I heard”! He then began to parade around the room chanting, “she said DaDa, she said DaDa”.
This milestone was bittersweet for me. My husband and I had a long standing bet on whether she would say MaMa or DaDa first. Of course I wasn’t willing to accept defeat yet, so I told my husband it was a fluke and it needed to be repeated to count. The very next day she said DaDa again… As a last resort, I took to the internet to try and find some type of explanation or reasoning on why she said DaDa first. After all, I spend the majority of the time with her.
I found some pretty interesting stuff surfing online, and I actually discovered that it is easier for babies to say DaDa than it is for them to make the “m” sound. In the end, I lost the best, but at least I had some reassurance. I knew it was only a matter of time before it was going to happen.
One week later, my daughter said MaMa
