How To Properly Use Baby Jumpers
With all the baby jumpers available on the market, it would seem that their use simply has one functionality — to get baby jumping and bouncing, and developing those calf muscles!
But because of concerns of proper infant development, there are specific ways baby jumpers can and should be used to ensure that your baby is getting the best exercise available for his or her growth. Here are some tips for using baby jumpers to your child’s best advantage.
When to Start Using Baby Jumpers
You can start using a baby jumper when your baby is capable of holding his or her own head up — at approximately five to six months old. Your baby will also need to be able to bear weight on his or her legs prior to using baby jumpers.
Use of Baby Jumpers
Baby jumpers are mainly for helping your baby expend excess energy, and should not be used as a sole development tool for walking. In fact, many experts agree that baby jumpers will not help with walking development, so they should only be used as an extra activity when your baby just needs to be energetic. Use baby jumpers no more than thirty minutes each day, and balance it out with exercises that help develop hips, stomach, and upper body as well.
When not bouncing, your baby’s toes should always be able to touch the floor, but his or her feet should not be flat on the floor — this is for the safety of your child.
Your baby will be able to use baby jumpers until he or she exceeds the weight limit, which is typically anywhere from 20 to 25 pounds. So, on average, your baby will be able to use baby jumpers from about five months old to about one year old. The height limit for jumpers is also about 32 inches. Any taller than that, and fall risks increase. Finally, once your baby has started walking on his or her own, or if he or she is able to climb out of the jumper, it’s time to stop using it. If it’s still in good condition, donate the jumper to a charitable organization, or make sure it is recycled properly.
Ensure that your baby is supervised at all times when using the jumper, and remember, never let them use it for too long.
